Abstract:
Cleaner Production (CP) strategy helps manufacturing companies to identifying the
opportunities for enhancing the economic and environmental benefits of their entire production
process. The manufacturing companies of the paint industry are seeking for such opportunities to
reduce their production cost that are spent on consuming electricity and water in their production
processes. Using the tool of reducing waste at source under CP strategy, the present study was
undertaken as a feasibility study for a purposively selected paint manufacturing company in three
segments of maintaining good housekeeping, better process control, and substitution and
modification. To do the relevant calculations, both primary and secondary data were used. The
calculated data showed that the company would be able to reduce the annual electricity
consumption by 18.81% and its cost by 26.49% and the annual water consumption by 25.07% and
its cost by 9.39%, if it could implement the suggested CP opportunities. As the managerial
implication of this study, the paint manufacturer can decide suitable CP opportunities that are to
be implemented to produce environmentally friendly and cost-effective products.
