Abstract:
ABC (Pvt) Ltd is one of the largest glove manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. They use
different machines and teams (work force) to produce different types of gloves. Therefore, the
overall productivity changes from machine to machine and team to team. There are several factors
influence to machines productivity including labours. The complex designs of automated lines may
lead to different kinds of technical failures. The breakdowns are one aspect of technical failures to
productivity. Overall equipment effectiveness factors are another aspect. This research has been
focused on finding the factors which drive the machine wise productivity and comparing machine
wise productivity and overall equipment effectiveness factors. In order to achieve this objective,
performance, availability, quality, team and product type were identified as factors. Pearson’s
correlation matrix was used to identifying significant relationships between productivity and above
factors. The results of stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that performance, availability
and quality as the significant factors which drive the productivity of machine 01. Performance and
availability are the significant factors which drive the productivity of machine 02. According to the
independent two sample t test, production, performance and availability of machine 02 was greater
than mean production, performance and availability of machine 01 respectively, whereas mean
quality of two machines were equal. Finally, the research has been proved that machine 02 is more
effective than machine 01.
